Instead of being intimidated working in a predominantly male industry, Angela Leet embraces and radiates her inner badass. She founded ALEET Co, a full-service construction management company located in her hometown Louisville, Kentucky. Angela is a first-generation college graduate who then went on to earn a Masters of Engineering and a Master’s of Business Administration. Beyond her business career, Angela is a community leader dedicated to helping others achieve and give back to her hometown. In 2018, Angela was the first female general ballot candidate for the mayor of Louisville, Kentucky.
This week on the?Badass CEO podcast, Angela spoke about how there are moments in your career that will force you to build self-esteem, confidence, and tenacity. One night before a big open house, Angela’s mentor gave her the advice that has stuck with her throughout her career. If you ever feel nervous or panicked before a presentation or event, ask yourself: did you prepare? Did you put the right team together? Have you thought about all the different scenarios and plan as best you could? If you can answer yes to all of those questions, don’t sweat the small stuff and be proud of your work.
With over 20 years of construction industry experience, Angela described entrepreneurship using a roadblock metaphor. If you are trying to get from point A to point B, but there is a concrete barrier in your way, then you need to find a different way to get around it. There are always various solutions to get to the same answer, but you have to make it happen. How are you going to get to point B? As an entrepreneur, I loved Angela’s metaphor because there will always be setbacks and roadblocks, but it matters how you adapt, persevere, and execute.
